Selecting a Life Insurance Agent

There isn't any secret to selecting an insurance agent to buy your life insurance from. If you already have an agent that works with you for your auto insurance or home owner's insurance, you should check with him/her about life insurance. If you don't already have an insurance agent, here are some things to consider:

  1. Make a list of insurance companies that you are comfortable with. You want to pick a company with a good reputation that you're confident will be around when you need them...
  2. SHOP AROUND! Interview lots of agents. Life insurance can get complicated, so you want someone who is going to take the time to listen to you, understand your needs, and explain all of your options.
  3. Select someone that you are comfortable with: your insurance agent will need to know the details of your financial situation, so you should pick someone with whom you are comfortable discussing that.
  4. Ask around about the agent's customer service record. Don't be afraid to ask friends and family whom they use.
  5. Don't be afraid to poke around the internet to get general quotes and find agents to interview. Take charge!
